The staff corridor design at Courtyard by Marriott, London City Airport is made up of a flurry of illustrations by our project team. The brief was to use events from the hotel's journey to create a timeline that would be both informative for staff and visiting clients, and at the same time replaces the white walls and make the area more lively.

The first step towards coming up with the visuals was to ask as many questions as possible around the highlights the client wanted to include and flesh those out to get a feel for everyone's experience involved in the history of this beautiful East London branch so far.

We then split up the events amongst ourselves to come up with ideas for the visuals. Initially, we were all wondering how we could bring our 4 very different design styles together, however, as luck would have it the brief was very specific about the East London vibes, which enabled us to be fairly eclectic on the artwork front.

The brick backdrop plays on the urban, industrial feel of the area. On top, the highlights follow the path of a rollercoaster, which was a synonym often used to describe the Courtyard's journey through COVID, lockdowns and the coveted moment of opening the doors to guests.

The final step in the process was to get the design to our wonderful vinyl printers, who turned the job around within just a couple of days and did the install in a mere few hours.

In addition to the timeline wall, we also created a wipeable Sales Wall which is perfect for team meetings and comes with 'Bonvoy' meter to assist with tracking revenue numbers, while the white magnetic team wall in the corridor is there to celebrate employee success. The team wall is embraced by a dynamic abstract graffiti oozing East London vibes.
